The Prevention of Crime Steven Fernandez CJ212-01 Kaplan University 2/10/2013 Crime Prevention is the key to keeping citizens safe, and the goal of police departments nationwide. In order to understand how to prevent crime we must look at the reasons crime occurs. Crime by definition is â€Å"the act or commission of an act that is forbidden, or the omission of that duty that is commanded by public law and that makes the offender liable to punishment by that law. The prevention of crime takes many shapes in order to be effective. We will evaluate what some of these steps are, to establish a basis for prevention of crime. The main focus of behavioral therapy according to Clark (2011), therapy has played a key role in reducing recidivism rates among juvenile prisoners, violent offenders, and substance abuse. Clark states in his work that the therapy assumes the patients can be conscious of their own behavior and thoughts, and thus able to make a change of a positive nature. This emphasis on the prevention of crime is extremely useful, due to the reduction of recidivism. By reducing recidivism you can know worry more about rehabilitation of the offender, and not having to come up with new methods and resources for stopping them. The prevention of crime will ultimately focus on the part of law enforcement, and their styles to proactive policing. This proactive result relies on the arrest initiated by police officers rather than arresting someone after a call for service has been received and investigated. ENGL 2310.24 Master-Servant Relationships The theme of power is prevalent in The Tempest with the help of the master-servant relationship between many of the characters. The play is full of instances where the relationship is disturbed. In the play the servant shows lack of regard to the master’s authority or influences a choice that the master makes. The servants’ actions are to show that they had control over something or that they wanted to have control over something and they end up giving a new perspective to the masters. In the opening act there is a scene of upheaval brought by a storm. The master-servant relationship between Prospero and Caliban was disrupted when Caliban expressed his dislike of his treatment and it led to Caliban serving another person. But being a low cost leader, AirAsia an upper hand because its cost will be still the lowest among all the regional airlines. Thus, AirAsia has a great opportunity to capture some of the existing customers of full service and other low cost airlines customers. However, there will be also some reduction in overall travel especially by casual or budget travellers. The ASEAN Open Skies allows unlimited flights among ASEANs regional air carriers beginning December 2008. This will definitely increase the competition among the regional airlines. However, with the first mover advantage as well as its strengths in management, strategy formulation, strategy execution, strong brand and low-cost culture among its workforce, this agreement can be seen as more of an opportunity. There is also some opportunity to partner with other low cost airlines as Virgin to tap nto their existing strengths or competitive advantages such as brand name, landing rights and landing slots (time to land). The population of Asian middle class will be reaching almost 700 million by 2010. This creates a larger market and a huge opportunity for all low cost airlines in this region including AirAsia. 4. Threats Certain rates like airport departure, security charges and landing charges are beyond the control of airline operators and this is a threat to all airlines especially low cost airlines which tries to keep their cost as low as possible.
